SCRIPT FOR TODAY: 05/19/15- “The Way We Choose To Speak!” (Proverbs 15:1)

Premise Question: Why does the tone of the words we speak and the attitude, way and manner, in which we choose to deliver them, have such a huge impact on the resulting outcome of any situation or circumstance that we may be confronted with, or indeed must address?

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬ NLT)

When responding to someone or something, in any situation or circumstance, a soft and kindly reply will tend to bring calm to the person or situation and will reverse the position or course, in a good and positive way, to a much preferred outcome and consequences; while conversely, choosing to react with strong, severe language and an unpleasant attitude, will most likely instigate immense and intense emotional distress, producing an exacerbation of the offense and hurt, which foments and fosters great feelings of displeasure, resulting in horrible consequences! (Proverbs 15:1 PDCP)

Bottom Line: The words we choose to speak, along with our tone, the way and manner, as well as, the attitude that we have while delivering our words; will have a huge impact on determining the resulting outcome of any situation or circumstance being addressed. For when we choose to react, rather than respond, the resulting consequence could very well be described as, throwing gasoline on a fire, which will turn into a conflagration, an out of control blazing fire that spreads quickly, with the potential of consuming and destroying everything and everyone in its path. Conversely though, when we choose to respond, rather than react, with words that are full of meekness and humility, that are gentle, kind, refreshing and encouraging, it will be conducive in promoting and creating an atmosphere of peace and tranquility; effectively minimizing and reducing the flame of the fiery situation or circumstance. The way we choose to speak or address someone or something will always have ramifications, for it will either produce positive results or dire consequences. Here are a few sayings that have either been used in the past or have recently come into vogue: “You better check yourself before you wreck yourself!” “Don’t speak to me in that tone of voice, young man!” “Don’t pour salt into an open wound!” “Stop picking at that scab and let it heal!” “If you don’t change your attitude you’re going to be changing your address!” And finally: “You’ll attract and catch more bees with honey than vinegar!” So, choose your words wisely, have the right attitude of gracious humility and deliver your response with much aplomb, by being gentle, kind, meek and merciful.
